Following on from the good news last July of short haired bees returning to the UK, today's news is not so good: Stirling University PhD research student, Ms. Penelope Whitehorn, said a study of moss carder bumblebees (Bombus muscorum) on nine Hebridean islands, off the west coast of Scotland, offered an important insight into the possible consequences of inbreeding. "The genetic work had already been carried out on these bumblebees, so we knew that the smaller and more isolated populations were more inbred than the larger populations on the mainland," The lack of genetic diversity is making the moss carder bumblebees more vulnerable to a number of threats, including parasitic infection. Similar problems could intensify on the mainland if populations do become isolated from each other as a result of habitat fragmentation due to intensive farming, urban sprawl and monoculture. In June 2010 Dundee University researchers were given £1.8m to examine if pesticides have affected the brain function of bees and whether they have damaged things like their navigation and foraging skills. The bee population had fallen by up to 15% over the two years to April 2009, while the population of butterflies and other insects was also down. The largest nature reserve in my area is Dartmoor, which appears to still be well populated with bees.

And Then There Were Three was the ninth studio album by the British band Genesis, released in 1978. It is the band's first album without guitarist Steve Hackett, and the third with Phil Collins on lead vocals, having replaced Peter Gabriel.

This song is notable for including the last ever use of a Mellotron on any Genesis studio recording, though Tony Banks did use one (albeit very sparingly) on his first solo album A Curious Feeling released in 1979.
