Sunflower in Illinois USA garden

Some volunteer sunflowers come up each year. Seed that survived the winter bird feeding.
As soon as it’s done blooming the birds will pick them clean. The gold finches love them.

    very good photo, and flowers! i used to grow 'em by the ton to compost, and our hens ate loads of the seeds. i might keep hens again, then again, geese would be better lawn mowers!

    I used to have 4 geese. I've probably already told you this but—if I ever wore a hat or carried anything in my hand when I went out to feed the geese they would attack me. As soon as I removed the hat or dropped what I was carrying they would be my old friends again. They must have imprinted on me looking a certain way.

    Do you know of the motherearthnews.com site?
    It has many interesting articles.
