diy cabinets

pay attention all aging hippies!
The admin needs to build some cabinets for the kitchen and bathroom, and solid wood appears to be advised against due to the varying humidity in these rooms.
so, cast your mind back to the days when you did some practical work (!) and advise which material for the structure of the boards, and best surfaces (laminate whatever).
Peace, love, DIY

Hey man, how’s it hangin? I had to dig back through crevices and cobwebs of my mind to recall building cabs for my groovy pad back in ’66. Or was it’67? Oh wow man, I shouldn’t have tripped on so many mind blowing drugs–ya dig?
I don’t know who told you that solid wood won’t work. My cabinets in the kitchen and bath have been fine for 30 some years now.
But I’ve also used MDF(medium density fiberboard) to make various things.Plus it’s cheaper than high grade wood. MDF is a particle board structure but with a surface that is great for painting. But if you’re wanting to stain the surface you’ll have to stay with wood.
Another choice would be using regular particle board and gluing a laminate to it.
I’ve never made a countertop. I just buy premade units. But if you’re handy with laminating it wouldn’t take much to make your own.
Gotta go man…time for herbal tea and smoke
